Two things you need to know about me – I can very lazy when it comes to leaving Edinburgh unless I have no choice, and I often promise to visit people when I’m drunk. I don’t mean turn up at their house in an awesome plot twist\u00a0when\u00a0<\/em>I’m actually 6 cocktails into a night, but I promise to go do things with\u00a0friends\u00a0in other cities\u00a0<\/em>after I’ve had a few. Places as far flung as Glasgow. As I travel a lot for work, when it comes to day trips I’m actually quite shit. The last time I ventured west was with my best mate, and that was because she was working on a campaign to promote ScotRail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The other night I was chatting to one of my favourite humans and fellow Asian business chick Laura\u00a0Griffin<\/a>; she suggested we meet up at the Scotland Re:Designed<\/a> Hypermarket event at SWG3 to do some early Christmas shopping, and I was a few glasses of prosecco in after the Godiva x Emperor’s Old Clothes launch. Shopping? Independent designers? Hanging out with my lovely pal for the afternoon? All these things dragged my wee hungover butt out of bed yesterday and onto a crowded train to The Weej.<\/p>\n

In one of the happiest coincidences known to man, it just so happened that the Glasgow Ethical Christmas\u00a0Market is also on this weekend, and nothing beats J\u00e4ger regret like a wee wander around some of the best vegan food stalls Scotland has to offer. Some of my highlights were Sgaia’s\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0toasted Reuben sandwich, or as I call it, “the best thing to ever happen between two slices of bread”; the next-level delicious stovies from Faceplant Foods<\/a>, cruelty free beauty from Odara Minerals<\/a>, Dollop & Scoff’s<\/a> alcoholic jams and chutneys, and Tempo Tea Bar’s<\/a> poppin’ boba bubble tea. I actually ran out of time because I had to head to SWG3 for the Hypermarket, but if you’re in Glasgow today, the fair is still on. Have a Reuben for me.<\/p>\n

This was my first venture to SWG3’s Hypermarket, a monthly event curated by a different person or brand each time.\u00a0Holy crap.\u00a0<\/em>This was everything I love about Scottish design, and the fact that Scot Re:Designed was involved meant that I’ve now basically spent my entire next week’s wages in one blissful go. I loved\u00a0all\u00a0<\/em>of it; every single designer there was among the best in independent design in the UK, and I will now be living on toast (no avocado) until my next payday. Totally worth it.<\/p>\n

I fell in love with Mairi McDonald’s<\/a>\u00a0paisley-inspired monochrome prints and her sequinned bomber jackets, the Cats Brothers<\/a>\u00a0colourful take on streetwear, brand new brand\u00a0Haar Sleepwear’s<\/a> beautiful loungewear, Lynne MacLachlan’s<\/a> 3D printed statement jewellery, and playful shapes at Ellie Vallely’s brand Squint<\/a>. I’m not ashamed to admit I maxed out my credit card. Totally worth it.<\/p>\n
